A PAIR OF TRIBAL INDIAN CEREMONIAL SHIELDS WITH BRASS BOSSES
Possibly Gujarat or Rajasthan, North-Western India, late 19th - early 20th century

Each of convex circular shape, the black lacquered surface of the exterior enhanced with four protruding bosses with floral collars, rounded brass studs and decorative rectangular and crescent-shaped plaques embellished with a circular beaded motif, the interior of one shield presenting just the padding base, whilst the latter with the padding cushion, both with four iron hoops, each 29.5cm diam.
