Barrias is most famous for his work 'Nature Unveiling Herself Before Science' (La Nature se dévoilant à la Science) produced in 1899 and also cast by the important Susse Freres foundry in Paris in numerous sizes and with numerous variations including ivory, gilt bronze, patinated bronze, silvered bronze and with various embellishments. The present bronze was first produced in 1900 as a full size figure before Susse produced smaller versions such as the present example which was also produced in 1900 and1901.
