Notes
During WWII Georges Jouve escaped from a camp and took refuge in the South of France. He settled in Dieulefit, a potters’ village, where he made a series of earthenware objects derived from the local tradition. Jouve returned to Paris in 1944 yet his work bore this influence for many years, as testified by the potbellied vases with raised animal patterns such as this one. In the 1950s his style evolved to simplified forms and pure colours.

Estimated at £30,000 - £50,000
