A late 19th century Burmese silver bowl, Rangoon circa 1890
Of rounded circular form, with a fold over rim, the body with embossed decoration of figures from the Ramayana such as Rama and the Demon Tataka, Sita asking Rama to catch the Golden dear for her, Maricha assuming the form of a golden deer, Rama slaying Maricha as the golden deer, al against a chased background of foliage and fishscale pattern. The upper section with a chased convex band of foliate scrolling forms, the lower section with an embossed band of peacocks in display.
