An early 20th century Indian Colonial unmarked silver and gold presentation key, circa 1912

With chased foliate scroll border and reeded shaft. An applied unmarked gold cartouche to each side, one engraved “Tahilram Khemchand Dhahamsala opened 7th June 1912”, the obverse engraved with a quartered of arms, surmounted by a crest of issuing atop of a mural coronet a crocodile, encircled Municipality of Karachi.

Length – 12.2 cm / 4.8 inches

Weight – 109 grams / 3.5 ozt

“Young Husband, Commissioner, inaugurates ‘Tahilram Khemchand Dhahamshala’ in Karachi. Tahilram was eminent personality of Karachi. He entered Karachi Municipality in 1887 and became is president in 1896. He breathed his last at the age of 42 years. This Dharamshala has been named after him in recognition of his valuable services. It is situated at Harris Road, costed 35 thousand rupees and is designed by Mea Sham Lee. (The Sindh Daily Gazette, Karachi dt. 8.6.1912)”
