Desiderio da Settignano ( c.1428 or 1430 – 1464) produced his famous marble bust 'Laughing Boy' between 1460 and 1464, the original is now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. The portrayal of the boy, his tongue up against the roof of his mouth in spontaneous laughter, captures the essence of childhood.
