A group of items relating to John Bligh, 4th Earl of Darnley (30 June 1767 – 17 March 1831) The 18 carat gold propelling pencil ruler, 1804, engraved with the monogram 'ED' below a coronet, accompanied by three mother-of-pearl gaming tokens, engraved with the crest of the Bligh family and the monogram 'ED' below a coronet, within foliate-engraved borders, pencil with London hallmarks, lengths: pencil 8.8cm, tokens 4.2cm to 6.9cm (4) (partially illustrated) John Bligh, Fourth Earl of Darnley (30th June 1767 – 17th March 1831) was an Irish peer and cricketer. He appeared in at least twenty-seven first-class cricket matches between 1789 and 1796. Together with his brother, the Honorable Edward Bligh, they were referred to as ‘the first Irish first-class cricketers’. In 1791, he married Elizabeth Brownlow, daughter of the Rt Hon William Brownlow of Lurgan, County Armagh, by whom he had seven children – all of whom are listed to the reverse of lot 2.  This lot may be subject to CITES regulations.
