A George III sterling silver snuff box, London 1818 by William Elerby
Of rectangular form, the hinged lid raised by a chased foliate thumbpiece to the front. All over with engine turned decoration, the lid centre with an oval cartouche engraved with a hare in hiding. The interior of lid engraved with a presentation inscription reading “Presented to Mr Thomas Wildash by the gentlemen of the Chislet and Herne hunt” all within scrolling ornamentation. Gilt interior. Fully marked to base, part-marked to the lid.

The Thomas Wildash mentioned may be Thomas Roper Wildash (1788-1834), son of Issac Wildash (1760-1836) of Davington Kent, later in Oundle Northamptonshire where on the 6th Dec 1831 he married Mary Henderson (1801-1845).
