Typed letter signed ('Wm H Taft'), to Arthur F. Statter, on the printed stationery of the War Department. Taft states that he received his correspondent’s telegram of congratulations and thanks Statter for remembering him, one page, with blank integral leaf, in very good condition, 8vo, Washington, 29 June 1908.

Arthur F. Statter (1870-1937) English screenwriter of the silent era who had served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during Theodore Roosevelt’s administration.

Taft was to leave his office as Secretary of War the day following the present letter in order to devote himself full-time to his presidential election campaign having gained a first ballot victory at the Republican National Convention earlier in the month.
