WALTER RICHARD SICKERT, A.R.A. (1860-1942) Portrait of a young woman signed 'Sickert.' (lower left) pencil and ink on buff paper 8 x 4 1/4 in. (20 x 10.5 cm.) Executed circa 1890. The sitter is thought to possibly be Ellen Heath, an accomplished painter of quiet landscapes and portraits who had studied painting in Paris. Ellen was a friend and informal pupil of Sickert and from 1898 became the lifelong companion of Edward Garnett. We are grateful to Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing this lot. Provenance: Christopher Fry and by descent.
