Born in Beijing in 1963, Andu graduated from the Department of Archeology at Peking University before teaching himself painting. Initially drawing inspiration from Western modernist painting, he was particularly captivated by the use of color in Post-Impressionism. Subsequently, he delved into the study of traditional Chinese landscape painting, channeling the "spirit of literati painting" and embodying the essence of Zen Buddhism.
Although Andu's landscape paintings share similarities with those of ancient literati who emphasized simplicity, lightness, and sparseness, they also diverge significantly. Instead, Andu's art seeks to capture the state of unity between humanity and nature, exemplified by the dense artistic conception of mountains and rivers.
