DOROTHY HAFNER (b. 1952 ) FOR ROSENTHAL: A studio line ceramic tea service, designed 1982, to comprise of six cups and saucers, six plates, three bowls, six egg cups, a tea pot, milk jug and sugar bowl, two candle holders and a salt and pepper set.

‘Flash’ dinnerware, designed in 1982 by Dorothy Hafner (1952 - ) for Rosenthal, captured the zeitgeist of mid-century post-modern ceramic design and became an instant icon. Trained as an artist and sculptor, Hafner brought a flair for form and design to the ceramic wares she designed for companies such as Tiffany & Co, NY, and Rosenthal Studio Line. Her avant-garde and distinctive style earned her both critical praise and commercial success, and her internationally exhibited one-off sculptural pieces are to be found in museums including the American Craft Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Victoria and Albert Museum
