Chaplin (Charlie) Unusual black and white, sepia toned photograph of Chaplin as the Tramp while facing a curtain, signed and inscribed "To my friend Sir Adrian Baillie from Charlie Chaplin, Los Angeles, Cal, Sept 24th 1927", framed and glazed, overall size 24.5 x 19.5cm. ***Sir Adrian William Maxwell Baillie was a British MP for two constituencies. In 1931 he married Anglo-American heiress Olive Filmer, owner of Leeds Castle. The Baillies lived during the week in London and held house parties at Leeds Castle at the weekends. During the 1930s members of royalty, including the Prince of Wales with Mrs Simpson, the Duke of York, Princess Marina, Queen Maria of Romania, Alfonso XIII of Spain and the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia were among the Baillies' regular visitors. Lady Baillie was a lover of the cinema and her guest list during that decade included the film stars Douglas Fairbanks senior and junior, Charlie Chaplin, Errol Flynn, Robert Taylor and James Stewart.
