AN ANTIQUE SHIRVAN RUG, EAST CAUCASUS

The abrashed indigo field with hooked bars, angular florlaq motfis, birds and palmettes around light rust-red field with various poychrome hooked panels, stylised birds, octagons and jewellery motifs enclosing four indented hooked and floral medallions. In rust and ivory double border of paired hooked motifs and angular stellar flowerhead vine between floral, S-motif and barber-pole stripes, approx: 8ft. x 5ft.2in.(244cm. x 157cm.) Good example for this type. Colours and well blennded and design is well drawn motifs. Charcoal-black is very slightly corroded otherwise this rug has good pile. Selvages original with touches of minute fraying in one or two small places. Ends with original kilim and fringes, tiny loss in one corner. Few very light dirt stains which should be improved with cleaning, (subject to professional quote). This rug is dated 1906 AD. In general, good usable condition. Attractive and very good furnishing piece.
