A large and heavy mid-20^th century Indian unmarked silver betel marriage casket, Delhi circa 1950

Post-Raj period, of compressed circular form raised in six cast lion statant feet with gourd-like panels with chased birds and foliate forms, the hinged centre with bands of trailing foliate scrolls and rosettes. The hinged lock plate with chased billing birds and flower sprays, a wrought and applied stop to the reverse. The lid surmounted by a hinged lid box section of domed form surmounted buy a cast elephant wearing a houda blanket finial chased upon a landscape.
