Castlereagh (Robert Stewart, Viscount)

Castlereagh (Robert Stewart, Viscount)

Autograph letter signed ('Castlereagh') to "Count Otto, Boulogne-Sur-Mer", saying "The British Government being of opinion that no advantage could arise from your being received in England, under the present circumstances, it has not been seemed proper to transmit the passport which you have requested", one page, integral blank, minor browning overall, chipping to upper margin, loss to lower right corner, closed tears to lower left corner, minor splitting along central fold, folio, Foreign Office, 27 June 1815.

A very interesting letter written just over a week after Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo in 1815 and revealing the strong anti-French sentiment of the British government.
