A VERY FINE ANTIQUE ISFAHAN RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The field with delicate angular leafy vine issuing polychrome roseheads and palmettes around large aprocot medallion with pendants containing arabesques and angular floral vine enclosing central smaller floral pole-medallion centrepiece. Green spandrels similar. In soft claret-red border of multicoloured palmettes and delicate floral vine between aprocot, flowering vine and arrowhead stripes, approx: 7ft.4in. x 4ft.6in.(224cm. x 137cm.). Very good example for this type with nicely drawn design and well balanced colours. This rug has slight wear to the pile down to knot collar and below, showing dot like warps in few places. Ends with short fringess, secured. Selvages rebound, well done. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 9 knots per sq. cm. In general this rug is in good usable condition. Attractive and very good furnishing piece.
