A MEISSEN PURPLE-GROUND MILK JUG, circa 1735-40, reserved with two quatrelobe panels respectively painted with a Kauffahrtei scene depicting merchants and their wares by a quayside, and a couple walking through a lakeside landscape, within brown-edged borders, with an acanthus scroll spout and scroll handle with a shell thumbrest, heightened in gilding, 9.3cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised x to the inside of the footrim (cover lacking) PROVENANCE: Private German collection.
