THREE SAFAVID BLUE AND COPPER LUSTRE-PAINTED POTTERY BOTTLES
Iran, 17th - 18th century
Comprising two small bottles, of compressed globular shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to gently slanting, stepped shoulders and a short conical neck with a widely everted mouth, the exterior painted in copper lustre against a blue ground, displaying overlapping horizontal bands of vegetal and floral decoration, the interior of one bottle painted in solid copper lustre, the latter with vegetal meanders on a white ground, respectively 12.5cm and 13.5cm high; and a similarly decorated pyriform bottle, with a tall tapering neck, possibly used as rosewater sprinkler, 22cm high.
