Minutes of a Special General Meeting of the Trustees of the New Cross Turnpike Roads held at the Green Man Inn, Blackheath in the Parish of Lewisham, 27 January 1844. The meeting was called to recommend the erection of a new toll gate at the west end of Deptford Bridge. The proposal was formally agreed and it was ordered that the new gate and toll house shall be constructed in order to levy tools on 'Horses and other Cattle' from midnight on 31 March. The 38 trustees who attended, seventeen of whom, signed the order, included a General, an Admiral, three doctors, and two reverends, one of these being an honourable also, single sheet folded, last page blank. Some darkening and fraying of edges, partly repaired, with centre fold reinforced at front; otherwise in good condition and quite legible.
