A FINE AND LARGE MID 18TH CENTURY FRENCH 'BOULLE' STYLE GILT BRONZE, CUT BRASS AND TORTOISESHELL BRACKET CLOCK BY JEAN FRANCOIS DOMINICE, PARIS the balloon shaped case surmounted by a caddy top and a foliate ormolu mount, the sides with glazed panels, the front door with a relief depicting Venus reclining and holding a mask, an open book beside her inscribed 'H** Seul Suffit', raised on four scrolling feet, the gilt 11 inch circular brass dial with twelve enamel Roman numerals and outer engraved minute track, the centre enamelled and signed 'J.F. DOMINICE A PARIS', the twin barrel movement with rectangular plates united by four baluster shaped pillars, the backplates signed 'J.F. Dominice A Paris', with outside countwheel and anchor escapement, striking on a bell fitted above, together with a bracket of tapering form with female caryatids to the front angles,  the clock 95cm high, 134cm high on bracket Related Literature: Tardy,'Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais', Jean Francois Dominice was first recorded as a clockmaker in 1736.(p.187) THIS LOT IS SUBJECT TO CITES.
