A cased unique mid-20th century American gem set sterling silver gilt cigarette box, New York dated 1960 by Tiffany and Co
Of rectangular form with a hinged lid. The top of lid with and engraved map of the Mediterranean and northern Africa, with twelves various cities and destination marked out by star set round cut diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds. The front engraved ‘Danginn, November 26-Decemeber 18 1960’, and with four facsimile signatures. Wooden lining to the base with two dividers. Stamped underneath with number 23520. Housed in a contemporary fitted presentation case branded for Tiffany and Co, New York, Paris, London.

‘Danginn’ was a motor-yacht commissioned and built by billionaire ship-owner Daniel K Ludwig (1897-1992) in 1960. At a cost of $3,000,000 and a length of 264’, ‘Danginn’ was the largest yacht afloat at the time, that maintained a prominent list of guests including Princess Margaret, the Aga Khan, David Niven, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra. This box commemorates her maiden voyage.
