Siordet (Gerald).- WWI

Autograph letter signed ('Gerald C. Siordet') to Mrs Cox, apologising for not replying sooner and saying "We are leaving in a very few days, early next week. We shall never forget the time we spent at Dessorough Lodge. We will let you know from time to time how we go on", one page, folding marks, 4to, 13th Rifle Brigade, Windmill Hill Camp, Andover, 24 July 1915; with two letters to the same recipient from Siordet's comrades, one being Foster Hugh Egerton Cunliffe (saying they are sening Mrs Cox a Maltese Lace shawl "as a small remembrance of ourselves and as a token of the gratitude we feel to you", two pages, 8vo, Windmill Hill Camp, Andover, 18 June 1915) and the other being Arthur Christopher Paul Mackworth ("I have been away from the Battalion lately on a two months jobat Divisional Headquarters, so I can't give you much news on the others...Mr Siordet is all right but I hear Sir Foster has not been at all well though I believe he is better again now...Captain Legard was killed instantaneously by a piece of shell; Captain Shears and Mr Beauford were both accidentally - and very slightly- wounded...We have had very few casualties, all things considered, and the men are all extraordinary cheerful. I can't think how they keep their spirits up as they do. I should have given out long ago, if I had to go through what they do", two pages, folding marks, folio, 13th Rifle Brigade, 10 March [1915] (3)

Siordet, Macworth and Cunliffe all served in the 13th Rifle Bridage and died during the First World War (Cunliffe in 1916, Siordet and Macworth in 1917).
