Typed letter signed ('W.S. Maugham') to a Mr Partridge, reading "I have never sold any of my manuscripts , except during the war for the Red Cross. I am told that 'Liza of Lambeth' as my first novel, has a value, and I am proposing in due course to present it to some public institution", one page, folding marks, 4to, Villa Mauresque, 1 August 1947; with an earlier autograph letter confirming his availability to meet the recipient, one page, 4to, Badgastein, 4 August 1923 (2).
