In a clear warning that both editions are needed to complete a collection, Locke amusingly reports, "[first edition] bought at Sotheby's expensively to replace my second edition in the certain knowledge that I'd be able to recoup a major part of my investment by selling that second edition. I was therefore mortified to find the textual difference between the two that forced me to retain both copies
