A mid- 19th century Dutch silver bachelor teapot, Amsterdam 1842 by Theodorous Gerardus Bentveld (1782-1853)

Of compressed oblong form with central girdle upon a short spreading oblong base. Thee curved half-fluted spout opposite a fruit woof scroll handle with cast acanthus scroll junction. The flat pull-out lid surmounted by a detachable wooden knob finial. Engraved to the side with a Scottish crest of a demi-lion rampant holding in his dexter paw a sword above the motto Virtute et Opera. Fully marked throughout, date letter H and additionally stamped underneath for retailer Bonebakker en Zoon (Adrianus Bonebakker 1767 –1842).
