Rattanakosin Kingdom, 19th Century

Cast standing with right hand in abhaya-mudra and stood atop a stepped base decorated with petals and adorned with a textile, dressed in long flowing robes draped over the left shoulder, the face with a serene expression,

59cm high; 5.3kg

Note: The pose depicted here is abhaya-mudra, the gesture of reassurance. This gesture may refer to a story in which the Buddha prevented a battle between the Sakyas and the Kolyas, who were contesting the rights to water in the Rohini river. The gesture is known as ham yat in Thailand, forbidding relatives from fighting.
