Arabic manuscript on paper, 327ff., each folio with 15ll. of black ink naskh script, the opening bifolio with elaborate illuminations in polychromes, red, and gold within scrolling borders, the text in gold cloudbands, chapter headings in red ink on gold on illuminated cartouches, marginal hizb and Juz’ markings with illuminated motifs and burnished gold, red text markings, gold rosette verse markers, catchwords, sura names on top left margin in red, the final suras within gold cloudbands, the colophon inscribed by the order of the governor of Khorasan, Heshmat-ed-Dowleh Hamzeh Mirza, twenty-first son of the Qajar Crown Prince Abbas Mirza Nayeb Saltaneh (1789 - 1833), signed by the scribe Mohammad Ali, dated 1288 AH (1871 AD), set within gold, blue, and black rules, in fine lacquer binding with horizontally-drawn gold iris and roses against a gold-sprinkled black ground, within red and black borders, the inner binding in orange lacquer, red calf spine, the text panel 15cm x 8cm, the folio 21.8cm x 13.5cm.
