Fonteyn (Margot)

Fonteyn (Margot)

Autograph letter signed ('Margot') to Lady Pierson Dixon, reading in part "I can never tell you how soothed and comforted Judy [Tatham] and I felt when we came to your house and you were so sweet to us. We had really had a rather nerve-wracking time since 4 a.m. that morning - and even the evening before as well. Judy had been expecting an F.B.I. hand on her shoulder at any second all day long and I felt terribly responsible for her. The calm and safety of your house and your own cheerful kindness we will never forget all our lives", two pages, mid-horizontal folding mark, some creasing overall, 4to, 17A Thurloe Place, 28 April [1959]

Dame Margot Fonteyn and her husband Roberto Arias were heavily involved in a coup d'état with Fidel Castro to overthrow Ernesto de la Guardia and the Panama's government in April 1959. Margot's friend and British model Judy Tatham played a small part in the plot.
