TWO CHINESE HARDSTONE 'MYTHICAL BEASTS' SNUFF BOTTLES.

Qing Dynasty, 18th / 19th Century.

The first carved in smoky crystal in form of a ferocious-looking roaring qilin, a small boy relaxing on its back, the second in amethyst, formed as a recumbent lion dog, his head with sharp fangs and a flowing mane turned to the side, both with stoppers formed as tails, 5.7 - 6.5cm. (4)

Provenance: an English private collection.
