An early 19th century Indian colonial silver curry and milk pan upon burner stand, Calcutta circa 1830 by Hamilton and Co

The pan of cylindrical form with a rounded base upon a collet foot, a reeded rim, with a side spout with hinged cap. The pull off double domed lid surmounted by a detachable compressed knop horn finial. Fitted with a pair of detachable reeded edge handles with turned horn centre, each with sliding rectangular junctions. The stand of circular form upon three lion paw and fluted legs, fitted with a detachable spirit burner. The lid and the side engraved with a contemporaneous crest of stag’s head erased. Marked underneath only with H&Co, an elephant, a cup and cover, Roman capital A and a pelleted square tally mark

This pan with stand is illustrated is illustrated Wilkinson W., Indian Colonial Silver – European Silversmiths in India and their marks (1790-1860), (1973), London: W.R.T. Wilkinson, p. 57. The marks shown differ as those have been transposed with those on page 54, please see the preceeding lot.
