The works in this lot remained in the family of one of Minton's oldest friends, James ('Jock') McHarg who is referred to in the first chapter of Frances Spalding's biography on the artist, John Minton, Dance till the Stars Come Down. Minton and McHarg attended Reading School together during the 1930s, John was a boarder whereas 'Jock' was a day-boy and the pair would take tea together on Sundays.
