A VERY FINE ANTIQUE SILK KASHAN PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA, approx: 208cm. x 131cm. Very good example for this type, seldom found in prayer design. Motifs are very nicely drawn with stylised flowerig trees, polychrome palmettes, angular floral vine and cloudbands. Good colour combination with ivory field. This rug has slight localized wear to the pile, visible on closer inspection, othervise good pile, soft and shiny silk quality. Ends with short kilim and fringes, added later, very well done. Selvages original. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 8 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. In general this rug is in very good usable condition despite imperfection. Very elegant and sought after type on the market.
