A ROMAN BRONZE LION COFFER HANDLE Circa 2nd Century A.D. Formed of a circular plaque with a lion head depicted in relief in the centre, pierced at either side for attachment, curved linear incisions indicate the wavy mane, with wide open incised eyes and a small hollow mouth, a ridged ring hangs from two large circular holes at each side of the mouth, 12cm diameter, (35.5cm inc. handle) Provenance: Private UK collection, acquired prior to 1990.
