Carl Goebel the Younger received his early training from his grandfather, the academy Professor and sculptor, Joseph Klieber, who taught his grandson at the Academy of Fine Arts from a very young age. In 1838 at the age of fourteen Goebel was awarded the Fuger Composition Prize. He went on to work in the major courts of Europe and travelled extensively.
