A VERY FINE SILK KASHAN RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The soft red field with multicoloured palmettes, serrated leaves, floral sprays and delicated floral tendrils around blue culsped floral medallion with pendants containing double floral centrepiece. Spandrels simialr. In blue border of polychrome palmettes, arabesques and angular floral vine between ivory floral meander, reciprocal and plain stripes, approx: 205cm. x 130cm. Very good type with good colour combination and well drawn design. Apart of touches of slight wear to the top pile barely visible, and small old repair, this rug has good pile of soft silk. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 9 knots per sq,cm; woven on silk foundation. Selvages original, ends with short fringes, secured. In general this rug is in very good usable condition. Elegant and attractive piece .
