A GROUP OF TWENTY-ONE BLACK-PAINTED AND TURQUOISE-GLAZED KUBACHI-STYLE POTTERY VESSELS
Iran, late 19th - early 20th century

Comprising five bowls, seven circular dishes, an oil lamp, two miniature vases, and six regular vases, all except one painted in underglaze black and covered in turquoise glaze in the style of earlier Safavid Kubachi wares, the pyriform narrow vase painted instead in copper lustre and glazed in turquoise, each vessel decorated with vegetal motifs, floral sprays and a great variety of lively animal motifs, including fishes, birds and peacocks, some vessels with vine trellis and grapes, the tallest vase 29.5cm high; the widest bowl 18cm diam.; and the widest dish 22cm diam.
