A BRONZE MODEL OF A RHINOCERUS, PROBABLY 20TH CENTURY, modelled standing, on a grey marble base, the bronze 18cm high x 30cm wide x 11cm wide
Note: In 1515 Albrect Durer executed a wood cut print of a Rhinocerus, not disimilar to the current rendition of the animal in bronze. In 1515 Manuel I, King of Portugal sent a gift to Pope Leo X of a rhinocerus, which was portraying in the print made by Durer from a contemporary description of the beast , but sadly the poor creature died in a shipwreck off Italy. Another artist inspired by the rhino was Salvador Dali who created not dissimilar renditions of the animal in bronze as part of his works.
