Painted in the 1950s, Myers was fascinated by all sorts of mechanical devices, whether designed to explore space, or - as in this example - assist in the managing of the land. The displacement of the figures in the present work shows a clear interest in the close relationship between man and machine, a connection that Myers held dear when he set up courses in Industrial Design at the RCA in the early 1960s.
