Conceived in 1985, this work is also known as Women of Greenham as a tribute to the women who protested at RAF Greenham Common against the government's decision in the early 1980s to allow cruise missiles to be stored there. The protest camp for nuclear disarmament at Greenham was active until 2000. The bronze of the present work was purchased by the Jerwood Foundation.
