Iran or Central Asia, 10th century

Of typical hemispherical shape, resting on a short straight foot, the slip-coated body painted in black, orange and green on a white ground, under a transparent glaze, a black medallion to the centre with three stems of stylised rosettes, surrounded by geometrically interlaced bands of orange, further concentric bands of various abstract design rising to a band of dots to the rim and including a band of pseudo-calligraphic inscriptions, the outside of the bowl coated in white slip with a band of curved strokes to the rim, the base with two inventory stickers, 20cm diam.
