WANG TIANDE (1960 –). 王天德

Digital-No09-sa31(a)(b),

Xuan paper, Chinese ink on paper, burn marks,

Each 41 x 50 cm. (2)

Executed in 2009.

Born in Shanghai, Wang Tiande aims to re-contextualise tradition within a contemporary framework through ink paintings, digital compositions and thought-provoking installations. He marks the paper using burn marks made with an incense stick, creating shapes and spaces, similar to those of landscapes, water and mountains. The story of how he invented the technique after a drop of cigarette ash dropped onto some paper is a legend of the Contemporary Ink Movement.

Estimated at £5,000 - £8,000
