Mambrino was a soldier, author of a narrative poem on the siege of Florence (1530), and a prolific translator of Spanish romances, including chivalric novels (the cycle of Amadis, of Palmerín and the Florambel de Lucea). The work belongs to the cycle of Palmerin de Oliva, and is the continuation of ‘La seconda parte et aggiunta nouamente ritrouata al libro di Platir’, also published by Roseo in 1560. It narrates the adventures of Darnandro, son of Darineo of Greece (Primaleon’s firstborn and brother of Platir, Flortir's father). The book reached considerable popularity, as it was reprinted in Venice five times, by Comin da Trino (1562), Michele Tramezzino (1565), Domenico Farri (1573), Giovanni Battista Porta (1581) and Lucio Spineda (1608 ).
