AN OTTOMAN QUR’AN
Ottoman Turkey, dated 1255 AH (1839)
Arabic manuscript on paper, 371ff., plus four fly-leaves and marbled endpapers, each folio with 13ll. of black naskh script, the opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illumination, gold circular aya markings, catchwords, in black and gold rulings, signed Ahmad Al Shukri, dated 1255 AH, the front inscribed with a dedication to Zeinab Hanim, dated 18 Sha’ban 1297 AH (26 July 1880), in gilt-tooled, flapped red morocco binding, the text panel 16cm x 10cm, the folio 22.5cm x 16cm.
