A George III mid-18th century English gilt metal chatelaine etui, London circa 1760

The shaped belt hook with chased decoration of putto holding a spear resting on rocaille scrolls reserved with C scrolls, segmented pendant section with chased and pierced decoration. The central etui case of ogee form with chased rocaille C scrolls, a figure to either side in 17th century dress. The interior fitted with a gilt handled pair of scissors, a snuff spoon, a bodkin with wax scoop and ribbon slot, a tortoiseshell pistol handled folding fruit knife, two pencil holders, an ivory 3-inch rule. Two additional hinged box sections, one later fitted with a velvet interior housing a gilt tape measure.

Provenance: sold Sotheby’s London, 18 Jul 1988 (Part-lot)
