Typed letter signed ('John Cleese') to the vendor, reading in part "I think it is really touching that you should have felt embarrassed on behalf of M.M. and the Bish. Please believe me that neither I nor the other Pythons take them as representative of Christians at all. Of course, there are a number of very narrow minded - and rather uncharitable - folk with the label Christian. But then the same would apply to any group of people with any label whatsoever. What is most encouraging is the number of Christians around who seem to feel, as we do, that there is nothing in 'Life of Brian' that Christ Himself would object to. In fact I am pretty sure he would approve of every basic point that we make. The film is definitely critical of the followers of religious and political leaders, but make no criticism of Christ whatsoever, and one recalls that He was none too complimentary about some of the orthodox religious leaders of His time!", one page, folding marks, 4to, 3 December 1979, with original mailing envelope.
