A mid-19th century Indian colonial silver christening mug, Madras circa 1840 by George Gordon & Co (active 1821-48)

Of baluster ‘tulip’ form upon a shaped circular foot, the lower section of the body of lobed compressed circular form, an everted moulded rim, and a reeded C scroll handle. They body with engraved decoration of foliate scrolls, flower heads and lattice work reserves. The foliate cartouche to the front later engraved with initials STG. Gilt interior. Marked underneath G.G.&CoO.
