TWO ENGRAVED BRASS DIVITS (PEN CASES WITH INKWELL)
Possibly Egypt or Syria, 19th and early 20th century
Each of typical shape, made in two parts, the elongated and narrow writing tools compartment with bulging, rounded ends, the attached inkwell of compressed and rounded square shape, one divit decorated with shallow engravings of rosettes, scrolling stems and foliage, 18.7cm long; and the latter with Mamluk-revival intertwined oval cartouches filled with pseudo-thuluth calligraphic inscriptions interspersed amidst split palmette trellis, knotwork, floral motifs and fretwork bands, 19cm long.
