TWO CHINESE WHITE-GLAZED WARES

Northern Song Dynasty

北宋 白釉一組兩件

Comprising a water pot formed with a compressed globular body moulded with three lobes and supported by a gently splayed foot, decorated with a clear crackle-glaze over white slip that falls unevenly just above the foot, together with a small baluster-form vase decorated in a buff-coloured glaze suffused with dark crackles

6cm - 13cm high

-

NOTE:

Reminiscent of earlier white wares from the Gongxian and Xing kilns of the Tang Dynasty, this delicate little water pot is probably from the Cizhou kilns, exhibiting a glassy clear glaze suffused with fine craquelure over a creamy white slip. See a related pot sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 2 – 15 December 2023, lot 47 (sold for HK$30,720 inc. premium). A larger example, with a similar lobed construction, is housed in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, acc. no. FE.16-2001.0

Estimated at £400 - £600
