AN IMPORTANT OTTOMAN DIPLOMATIC FIRMAN FROM SULTAN ABDULAZIZ (r. 1861 - 1876) BESTOWING HONOURS OF THE CHIVALRY ORDER OF THE MEDJIDIE TO THE FRENCH DIPLOMAT AMÉDÉE OUTREY (1892 - 1962)
PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ENGLISH BIBLIOPHILE
Ottoman Turkey, dated 2 December 1853 and 8 September 1866
Comprising a Turkish manuscripts on cream paper, with 3ll. of black ink diwani script beneath the tughra of the Ottoman sultan in gold, the text from Sultan Abdulaziz (r. 1861 - 1876) conferring the second class Order of the Medjidie on Amédée Outrey, a French diplomat, dated 28 Rabi’ Ul Akhar 1283 AH (8 September 1866), the official translation of the firman in French dated 12 September 1866, and stamped Ambassade De France A Constantinople, signed M. M. Delaporte, attached to the verso of the latter firman with a plastic window, both firmans mounted on white cardboard frames, the folio 56.3cm x 36.5cm, 68cm x 46cm including the mount.
